Love it !!!!! September 3, 2010 J Chan (Trinidad, WI) OMG..... this game is sooooo much fun. I play it from time to time when I need a break from my studies and its the perfect brain cooler..... I also love playing the game with the wheel. Not much else to say apart form what has already been said.... This game is a MUST for all Wii owners, regardless of age.
Favorite game September 1, 2010 M. V. Damiano This game is the best. I play online all the time with friends and others Kart players all the time. I think the best games are against human players and not the computer.
I guess I'm just too good August 18, 2010 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok, so my summer vacation was going pretty fine, I had just unlocked the Supercar in Burnout 2: Point of Impact(Man, that thing is fast!) and I really wanted Mario Kart Wii. So my birthday comes around. I usually get 1 "big" present like a guitar or a camera, and about 2 "small" presents like bionicles from my parents. My small one, a duffle bag. My big one, this game. I plugged it into my Wii, and did the first grand prix. I come in 1st place, no sweat. Ok, maybe the rest of the game is hard. This goes on after (SPOILER ALERT) I unlock Diddy Kong, the Super Blooper, Dry Bowser and a lot of other stuff until I make my way to the Mirror Class in less than 3 weeks. (End of Spoiler) The game is way too easy if you are used to the "pro" racing games like Burnout, Need for Speed, DIRT, Gran Turismo, ect. It is fun if you play Wi-Fi (as long as people don't cheat) or with friends who are also really good, but really good non-cheaters are hard to come by. And why I don't race my family; 1: My 6-year-old brother always complains about using the wheel and who he races, and 2: No one (except me) in my family has gotten more than 16 trophies. And I can't sell it because it would kill my little brother. I admit it is fun, until you win a lot. So after this, I learned that nintendo can only make good fighting games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl or good RPG games like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (if you could call that RPG). Oh well, guess I'll see if Mario Kart 3ds is better.
OK game August 16, 2010 Mario Kart Wii is pretty much the definition of love-hate. I mean, the courses are probably the best of any Mario Kart game- I'm serious! The part of the game that drags it down is the fact that the races are almost entirely luck-based.
Gameplay:
Mario Kart Wii, as with all other Mario Kart games I've played, is, well, simply a blast. After the creation of the Wii and the Wi-Fi connection, playing multiplayer is easier than ever (but I'll get into that later). The controls are easy to use. Let me repeat that- THE CONTROLS ARE EASY TO USE (yes, I'm looking at you Sonic Riders Zero Gravity!) The items are creative, and they're kind of a blend of all of the items from previous Mario Kart games. However, there are two new items- Lightning Cloud (not Lightning Bolt) and Mega Mushroom. Both of these are great additions to the game. Now, the gameplay isn't always peaches and cream (or should I say Peach and Daisy). The fact that the game is about 60-70% luck is UNBELIEVABLY FRUSTRATING and, without it, this game might have gotten 5 stars. You're in first by a lot, then all of a sudden... a Blue Shell hits you and you go KA-BOOM! You're still in first though, but not by much. Then, a red shell hits and all of a sudden you come in fifth place. That's the kind of thing you'll expect to see a lot.
Graphics and Sound:
The music is pretty nice, and is different for each course (Wario's Gold Mine is Western-style, Toad's factory is wild and silly, etc.) The sound effects are also neat- it's hilarious to see Donkey Kong get slammed by a Shell and start making ape-ish noises and frantically waving his hands around. The graphics are also pretty good, though the game gets kind of clunky in multiplayer.
Multiplayer:
It's fun to blast each other with items while frantically trying to scramble to the finish, but it's NOT fun when the worst player in the group wins because he got Star while the guy behind him used Lightning Bolt. To make it more fair, you can turn the items off (sadly, you can't do this for the Grand Prix). If you do, people might start complaining, so unfortunately, you'll probably spend a lot more time with items than without them. The multiplayer should have been changed so that the races aren't purely luck.
Courses:
The courses themselves are beautiful and ingenious; even the old courses are reworked! Different courses have different mechanics (e.g. Bowser's Castle Wii has a giant Bowser that launches fireballs, Mushroom Gorge has mushrooms that bounce you in the air, etc.) There is an amazing variety in the styles of the courses... even the three Bowser's Castle courses are distinctly different from each other.
Battle Mode:
Though not nearly as fun as DS battle, the Wii battle mode is still pretty fun. In battle, there are two different versions- Balloon Battle (players zoom around, hitting each other with items to win points) and Coin Runners (collect coins and steal them from your opponents). Coin Runners is the better of the two, though they're both a nice break from the regular races.
Wi-Fi Missions:
The Wi-Fi missions are really cool. Every once in a while, Nintendo will put up a mission for players around the world to play and compete against each other. The missions vary diversely, but the one that is going on as of this writing is a go-through-the-gates run on Koopa Cape. Pretty nice, overall.
Time Trials:
Now this is probably the best part of the game. There aren't any CPU players to bug you... simply race for the best time! The really cool thing is that each Wii course is so clever, that you'll have a blast playing in this mode! In fact, Time Trials was probably the only mode where I actually ENJOYED trying to unlock everything.
Overall, Mario Kart Wii is a fairly good game, especially for the younger ones. It is one of those "must-haves" for the Wii and a pretty good buy!
Note: If you have Super Mario Galaxy, Roselina is MUCH easier to get.
Thanks for the wonderful game August 1, 2010 Sergey I bought this game for my 8 year old kid - he enjoys it for a second month already. I also played along wth him and like it very much.
